BAR MLECZNY

Author Note On The Poster Design

“What the author had in mind?” - such question is often asked in relation to creative materials.

Bar Mleczny is a print dedicated to an artistic poster, touching on various events, films or even love for dumplings.

  • A bar mleczny (eng. milk bar) is a Polish type of fast food restaurant that became popular in the interwar period and later, in the post-war period. Milk bars were similar in operation to today’s eateries, but based on traditional cuisine. The name of the bar comes from the predominance of dairy dishes.

Some milk bars are in function to this day.

  • A communist government was established in the country after the Red Army’s takeover of Polish territory from German occupation in World War II.

The Polish People’s Republic (pl. Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa, PRL) existed from 1947 to 1989 as the predecessor of the modern-day Republic of Poland.

History in aspect of art is very insportant as Poles being restricted by other culture (again) took things in their own hands to liberate artist from communist propaganda shoe. That is how Polish School of Poster was born.

  • A term created in the 1960s, applied to a group of Polish poster artist who gained international recognition as creators of posters on politival, social and cultural topics (film, theather performances, exhibitions).

Posters made by representatives of this school had a diverse style, but their common features were conciseness and economy of form, eloquent irony, and innovative lettering.

The nature of the work of Polish poster artist was sometimes described as a style of “independence and intelligence”.

The cultural heritage of Polish Poster is under constand debate, which varies between whether the Polish School of Poster is limited to the boarders of Poland and the people living there or not. Attention is paid more to the place of origin and creation of the poster than to its chracteristics. These features are basis of the uniqueness of the Polish School of Poster, and they distinguish it from others.

Among other things, these features are that this poster is an artistic poster, it gives a second life to the work it illustrates, evokes an emotional reaction from the recipent. It is more thoughtful, its intellectual value works on a different principle than commercial poster. In the case of an artistic poster, this intellectual value will be graphics, metaphors and allegorieshidden in them. All such subcutaneous, invisible to the naked eye things.
